“Counselling, Ethics & The Law: What’s Essential To Know”

Jim Holloway is the Trainer

Saturday 19th May 2012
Registration & coffee from 9:30am
Workshop starts at 10am, and ends at 5pm

The principles defined in the BACP’s Ethical Framework are designed to help us work through difficult situations and dilemmas, hopefully leading to ethical decisions that ‘feel right’. When it comes to legal issues in counselling, we need to be able to take a more objective view as the process of law is all about enforcing what is right. This workshop pinpoints the certainties and identifies the grey areas that are essential to know about when aiming for best practice as a counsellor.

Topics covered will include:
  • ‘The Only Way Is Ethics’ – what distinguishes counselling as an ethical activity
  • ‘Knock, Knock, Who’s There?’ – legal challenges to confidentiality
  • ‘The Write Stuff’ – record-keeping, data protection and accountability
  • ‘Dilemmability’ – a step-by-step guide to ethical decision-making
This is an interactive workshop with experiential exercises and plenty of time for questions & answers, plus up-to-date handouts.
